Just like getting a synthetic oil change in San Diego, car batteries need to be changed with a certain frequency. Moreover, they need to be cared for properly if you want them to last longer. You don’t want your battery to just have and O.K. performance; you want it to have an excellent one. Synthetic Oil Inc. in San Diego would like you to know some battery maintenance tips. Read on.
  1. To protect your battery from corrosion and rust, coat it with grease specially made for high temperatures.
  2. Some batteries need water. You should check the water level every 2 to 3 months; it should barely touch the bottom of the battery’s refill hole. Use a funnel to pour distilled water, just be careful not to overfill.
  3. Consider investing in a car battery charger. It will keep an ideal charge level when your car is not in use. It’s awful to come back from you vacation and realize your battery is dead.
  4. Use a battery insulation kit to keep it insulated from extreme temperature changes. The insulation kit is usually a plastic or acid resistant sleeve that insulates, but still allows your battery to vent. Cars are usually equipped with it, just in case you need a replacement your owner’s manual has the information on what type you should get.
  5. To keep the battery terminals clean, brush them with a wire brush. Remove the battery connectors from the terminal by moving them gently from side to side. Then make a paste using baking soda and distilled water to brush across the battery. Remove all the acid build-up and leave it nice and shiny. Replace the battery connectors.
